WORLD PORT DAYS
For 34 years Rotterdam shows the ins and outs of Europe’s
largest port during the World Port Days. A large variety of port
companies give you a glimpse behind the scenes of their daily operations. In the city centre along the river Maas and quaysides you will find a wide range of companies, vessels, activities and industrial material. Apart from this the World Port Days offer you the opportunity to visit different companies by boat, bus or train. These excursions are truly one of a kind; usually you’ll never be given the chance to visit the Port’s industrial areas!
Opening hours event terrain: from 10 am till 6 pm during the event on 7, 8 and 9 September.
THEME
This year’s theme is all about taste: Port of many flavours. Many of the food products in your kitchen cabinet find their way into the country through the Port of Rotterdam! In accordance to this year’s theme you will find a quayside dedicated to taste. 100 years ago the first Chinese people came to Rotterdam and definitely changed the flavour of food in the Netherlands. A beautiful square completely decorated in the Chinese theme allows you to explore the Chinese culture in the Netherlands.
The kick-off for the World Port Days will take place on the river Maas on Friday 2 September at 2 pm. The show will start with a mini concert of the amazing Ming’s Pretty Heroes. During the official opening a parade of Chinese kites will fill the air above the river Maas.
SATURDAY NIGHT
Definitely worthwhile is the Saturday night programme on the river Maas, where one can expect music, festivities on the water, light shows and last but certainly not least a dazzling firework show. The show starts at 8.30 pm on Saturday 3 September.
